HIS HOLINESS THE DALAI LAMA’S MESSAGE TO HIS SPIRITUAL BROTHERS AND SISTERS OF SRI LANKA

His Holiness the Dalai Lama, in his message to thank the Sri Lankan sisters and brothers who organized the ‘Bilingual Dhamma Symposium’ on July 06, 2022, his 87th birthday, at Buddhist and Pali University Sri Lanka, has clearly demonstrated his love and kindness to fellow human beings and his flaming desire to help them achieve peace of mind and happiness. He has specifically quoted from Indian spiritual master Shantideva which reads “As long as wandering beings prevail, until then, may I too remain, to dispel the sufferings of wandering beings”.  His selection of this quote reflects his own sentiments and desires rooted deep down in his heart to dispel the sufferings of his fellow human beings.  The reference ‘wandering beings’ invariably mean the people who are uncertain on their life’s goal and eking out an existence comprise perpetual sufferings. He has stated: “I have a strong determination to be born in places where I can serve the needs of countless sentient beings.” This statement again confirms his desire and aspiration in serving the humanity.

His Holiness further emphasizes on the basic concept of Buddhism as: ‘the responsibility of everyone to create a happier, more peaceful world’. A peaceful and harmonious world guided by mutual brotherhood and love, based on the foundation of a ‘peaceful mind’ is the basic tenet of Buddhism which His Holiness the Dalai Lama advocates and lays emphasis upon as his life’s goal. His Holiness the Dalai Lama has made a dramatic impact on ordinary community, religious and political leaders based on these tenets.

The other noble Buddhist concepts that he is committed to advocate and has been successful in achieving to the greatest degree as an internationally recognized Buddhist leader: service to humanity under the principles of ‘ahimsā’ and ‘karunā’, propagating peace of mind as the basic foundation for peace in the world and real source of joy, promoting inter-religious harmony and understanding, keeping alive the Tibetan religious and cultural traditions and  protecting his motherland’s fragile natural environment . Living in exile for six decades, after having lost his country which was under his spiritual and political leadership, in the hands of Chinese communist leadership, he has been capable in achieving these objectives under the Buddhist tenets without doubt. As the living icon of Buddhism, on his 87th birthday on July 06, he is receiving greetings and wishes from the country leaders and people across the world. The wishes sent by the Most Ven. Mahanayake Theros of the three Nikayes and Maha sangha from Sri Lanka too added in that.

His life work of taking the message of the Buddha to every nook and corner of the world and practicing the concepts of non-violence, compassion, mutual brotherhood, peace and harmony is continuing unhindered in spite of his advancing age. The democracy loving world anticipating the day on which Tibet liberate from the clutches of communism and establish the free nation back.
