A Dialogue for Global Harmony
The cornerstone of the visit was a formal audience with the Atamasthanadhipathi, Most Ven. Dr. Pallegama Hemarathana Nayake Thero, the Chief Custodian of the Eight Sacred Places in Anuradhapura.
During the meeting, the leaders engaged in a profound discussion regarding the expansion of Buddhist teachings across the region. The dialogue centered on the practical application of Metta (loving-kindness) and Karuna (compassion) as essential tools for fostering peace and harmony in an increasingly polarized world.

“Our goal is to explore every possibility to take the Buddha’s message to every corner of the region,” the delegation noted. “By prioritizing compassion over conflict, we can establish a foundation for lasting tranquility.”

The primary mission of this visit extends beyond ritual, aiming to solidify spiritual connections by bridging the link between South Asian Buddhist heritage and international leadership. By identifying new educational and cultural channels to disseminate Dhamma teachings, the delegation seeks to implement a compassion based regional outreach. The ultimate goal is to utilize the core tenets of Metta and Karuna as active frameworks for mitigating regional tensions and ensuring that ancient wisdom translates into modern social stability and mutual respect among nations.
Homage to the Sacred Symbols of Faith
Following the discussions, the delegation participated in a series of religious observances at Sri Lanka’s most revered sites. They paid solemn homage to the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, the oldest human-planted tree in the world with a recorded history, and the Ruwanweli Maha Seya, a monument symbolizing the architectural and spiritual pinnacle of ancient Sri Lanka.
The visit underscores a growing movement among Buddhist organizations to transition from traditional monasticism toward active participation in regional diplomacy and humanitarian outreach. The IBC and the Atamasthana leadership expressed mutual commitment to continuing this dialogue, ensuring that the historical bond between the various traditions of Buddhism remains a beacon for regional unity.
