The Multilingual Dhamma Symposium, held on July 6, 2023, the birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, by the University of Kelaniya in Sri Lanka and the Foundation for Buddhist Brotherhood in collaboration with the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC) at the auditorium of the faculty of humanities in Honour of his lifelong efforts to spread the noble Buddhist concepts and bring spiritual upliftment and happiness to the world community, proved to be a significant occasion in Sri Lanka’s Buddhist history. 
The occasion was graced by the presence of Most Ven. Dr. Niyangoda Wijithasiri Anunayake Thero, chancellor of Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine. Snr. Prof. Geshe Ngawang Samten, a senior Tibetan scholar, academic, author, and the former V.C. of UOK. and he delivered the key note speech and also conveyed his greetings to His Holiness the Dalai Lama for many more years of healthy and productive life to serve mankind. Along with the Most Ven. Dr. Waskaduwe Mahindawansa Mahanayake Thero, Most Ven. Prof. Pallekande Rathnasara Anunayake Thero, Most. Ven. Dr. Waleboda Gunasiri Anunayake Thero, Most Ven. Elikewala Seelananda Nayaka Thero, Chief Sangha Nayaka of Kalutara district the Most Ven. Kosgoda Gnaninda Thero and Ven. Khetsang Rinpoche.

The brief documentary on His Holiness the Dalai Lama, on his flight to India, his government in exile, and lofty work based on Buddhism for mankind, as well as the discourses on His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s involvement and engagement in advocating and teaching the various important aspects of Buddhism to the international community, were enlightening and eye-opening. The most revered prelates of the Maha Sangha also sent blessings for the well-being of Sri Lankans at this time of immense sorrow.
The whole group, including the most revered prelates of the Maha Sangha, recited Pirith’sutras’ at the end for His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s health and a long and fruitful life.

brotherhood is organizing a multilingual scholarly symposium in collaboration with the University of Kelaniya and International Buddhist Confederation on 06th of July 2023 with the participation of many national and international scholars coinciding the 88th birthday celebration of His Holiness the Dalai Lama
As we all passing a very crucial time period reflection of the teachings of the Buddha has become much necessary more than ever in the history to pacify disputes going around the world. Specially the lack of understanding of root causes behind the internal conflicts has caused to generate numerous issues in individual, societal and continental level. Their repercussions in global level have caused to create an uncertainty about the moral observances of human kinds.
Therefore, as Buddhist religious leaders it is our responsibility to form a strong network to deliver the message of the Buddha effectively to the millions of burning hearts around the globe to make them understand about the nature of reality that we all eventually confront.
Also it is my pleasure to extend the blessings of the triple gem for perpetuity of the yeoman service of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and I congratulate His Holiness for long life and good health. Eventually all the wholesome deeds performed may cause for the supreme bliss of Nibbāna.

The spiritual leadership built by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, who was nurtured by Buddhism, is a great blessing and a precedent for all the people of the world. It is based on kindness and compassion, a fundamental teaching of the Buddha. That is well confirmed by the speech given by His Holiness delivered at the International Buddhist Conference held in India in April 2023.
“Every time I travel, I believe that every person I meet is another human being like me. We all hope to live a happy life. We are all are sensitive to a kind smile. This is why I smile with every human being. Even if the language we speak is different, sensitivity can be communicated through a kind smile. In such circumstances, the fellowship will emerge, religion, race, and social status will gradually disappear and kindness will spread among all the people of the world.”

Every sentient being in the world is happy to see how His Holiness the Dalai Lama acts with empathy and loving kindness in spite of thousand and one of challenges he is facing.
I am grateful to the Foundation of Buddhist Brotherhood for organizing such a wonderful birthday celebration as an International Scholarly Symposium in collaboration with the University of Kelaniya coinciding His Holiness’ Birthday who is globally respected and venerated.
